Narrowboat, 50ft Canal Boat, Approx. late 1980’s, Complete New Refit & New BSS

Proud Mary was originally built in the latter part of the 1980s. The builder is unknown. She is 50’ in length with a beam of 6’ 9”. She has a Traditional Stern Deck and a large well deck at the Bow. The external paintwork is in a mix of mid blue, pale blue and navy blue.

Prior to 2023 Proud Mary had not been used for a number of years and the interior was in need of some TLC. In June 2023 she was taken out of the water for a hull survey, which confirmed that the hull was in a sound condition. Any potential buyer can have sight of the hull survey. Over the past year the interior has been stripped out and a complete refit has been undertaken. The result is a very spacious and low maintenance modern interior with many pleasing and useful features, making it ideal as both a liveaboard narrowboat or a leisure craft

Proud Mary is a 1 or 2 person boat, however there is the potential to put a sofa bed in the lounge to increase the capacity if needed

Internal Layout:

Forward Galley, Centre Lounge with 2 side hatches, Bedroom, Bathroom, Engine Room

Fit Out:

Galley – Narrow Drawer and Cupboard Units either side providing a larger than normal central area for working in the galley, 2 ring gas hob, 240 volt fridge. There is also a folding table with 2 folding chairs. Everything in the galley is brand new

Lounge – The lounge is an open plan area and has the benefit of side hatches on both sides of the boat. The only fixture in the lounge is a solid fuel stove (Boatman Stove), this was fitted in the early part of 2024 at which time it was new. It has only been used for heating the boat whilst the fit out was taking place

Bedroom – The bedroom is adjacent to the lounge. A sliding barn door separates the two areas and this provides the opportunity to select your desired sleeping layout. With a slide of the door you can choose a 4’ 6” double bed, or 2 x 2’3” single beds. The bedroom has porthole windows and a corridor to the engine room.

Bathroom – The bathroom has a quadrant shower cubicle, a Thetford 565 cassette toilet, and counter top sink with storage cupboard under. The walls are modern white sparkle UPVC aqua panelled walls. There is a single porthole, however, a window wall allows light to be borrowed from the bedroom

Engine Room – Underneath the floored area is a Lister Air Cooled engine which has recently been fully serviced. Also in the engine room are the main electrical components and the brand new calorifier and some of the plumbing fixtures for the bathroom

General – The boat is insulated with a substantial layer of Rockwool loft insulation. The hull and topsides and ceiling are lined with plywood. The hull sides in the Galley and Lounge are finished with acoustic slat wall, and in the bedroom they are covered with a lightweight ribbed carpet. The ceiling throughout the boat is a finished with UPVC ceiling boards and a central lighting channel. Under the gunnels the 240 volt and 12 volt electrics are housed in dado trunking.

Exterior

The hull has 6mm base plate, 6mm side plate and 4mm hull plate

The topsides and roof were painted in 2023. Six brand new windows were also fitted in the August 2023. These are Caldwells frames with fully opening and removable glass panes.

The front deck has recently had a floating decked floor added, along with a small matching table and chairs. I also have a cratch frame which was made for this boat and removed prior to fit out.

The water tank is under the front deck. This has been emptied, cleaned and repainted this year.

The hull was blacked in October 2022

Electrical Systems

There are a range of 240 volt sockets. This circuit connects to a Victron Multiplus, as does the 12 volt circuit. There are 4 x 120ah leisure batteries and a deep cranking engine starter battery. Once again these systems are completely new installations.

Plumbing & Water Heating

The water pump is located in the front of the boat under the well deck. The hot water is generated by either a 1200 watt immersion heater or coil which can be connected to the engine

Location

The boat is currently moored in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire on the Middle Level Navigation. Both residential and leisure moorings are available but this would need to be discussed directly with the marina. The Middle Level Navigation is connected to both the River Great Ouse and the River Nene navigations.

The marina is not open to the public and viewings are by appointment only, please send me a message.  I am also happy to answer any questions you may have. I have many years of boating experience, including living aboard a number of different boats and regularly cruising the rivers and canals. I have undertaken pretty much all of the new fit out work on Proud Mary and therefore I have a comprehensive knowledge of this.
