Lovely 55 ft Measham Narrowboat Trad stern

Description

My lovely narrowboat ‘Phoenix III’ is regrettably for sale, due to ill-health. She’s a great boat – comfortable, spacious, cosy-cottage feel, lots of storage. Ideal either as a constant cruiser (previous owners lived happy cc life aboard around East London) or on a home mooring.

55’ traditional stern.
Vetus engine.

Two big solar panels on the roof.
Boatman woodstove.
Compost toilet.

Brand new battery charger (2022).
Brand new electric immersion (2022).
Brand new stern gland (2022).
Brand new chimney flue (2024).
Brand new starter battery (2024).

Blacking below waterline kept up to date, due in 2025.
BSSC current: due June 2025

The layout has been extremely well thought-out, so that it feels like a much bigger boat inside (I previously lived aboard a 58’ narrowboat and if anything Phoenix’s 55’ feels bigger as she has much better-utilised space).

Detail
A good-size cratch, which can comfortably fit a bike and useful tool chest, is covered* providing a useable semi-outdoor space on the bow deck. There is a calor gas locker in the bow point.

Through the secure double front doors down steps to the saloon, with cosy Boatman woodstove, IKEA sofa, fold-down dining table and chairs.

Open-plan to the kitchen, a good-sized space you can actually cook a roast dinner in, fitted out by previous owners in 2019 with bamboo and wood countertops, giving a nice, cottage-core feel to the space. Plenty of cupboards and storage space. The double-door hatch here is a useful and pleasant feature; I have never had any issues with leaks, even with this year’s storms and torrential downpours!

Beyond the kitchen is a large bathroom (for a boat), with a big shower, clean and easy-to-use compost toilet, sink, mirror, cupboard, and a sliding door to the hallway provides privacy.

There is comfortable bedroom at the stern, comprising small double with underbed storage, a large wardrobe and two deep cupboards.

A tidy and very well-designed engine room houses the clean Vetus engine in an easily accessible manner. External doors painted with the classic castles and roses lead out to the traditionally-short stern deck and tiller.

Currently she is moored on the Grand Union at Cowroast in Hertfordshire, less than hour train journey into central London. Mooring is a totally separate agreement with CRT, not included, but I believe it would become available to bid on open market by new owners. Cowroast Marina is very close by, where moorings are usually available.

*She does need some external tlc (Covid-related ill health has prevented me getting on with painting her top & sides which are due, and replacing the cratch cover).

Phoenix III is a really lovely, comfortable narrowboat and I’m very sad to have to let her go.
Hoping she will find some great new owners for more adventures on the cut!
